However, Pentecost was celebrated by the Jewish people for many years before the birthday of the church. The word Pentecost literally means “50 days” after the Passover.

The Origins of Mother's Day |

Mother’s Day, as we know it, began in the United States of America. On May 9, 1914, by an act of Congress, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. President Wilson established the day as a time for “public expression of our love and reverence for mothers of our country.” A lot has changed since that first Mother’s Day when President Wilson asked for carnations to be passed out to every mother.

As we come into the Easter season, I am
reminded from the scriptures about a certain “Doubting Thomas,” who
said, “Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put
my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his
side, I will not believe (John 20:25).” He heard that Jesus was alive, but he wouldn’t believe. There were others that didn’t believe, the scriptures said. He kept showing up to say, “here I Am!” In my mind’s eye, I picture it like, Ta-da! Here I Am. I kept My promise. “I am the resurrection and the life.” Yoo-hoo! I’m here! The Bible states that while many did not believe He arose. Those that had Him crucified did. They even remembered what He had said about arising from the grave, and sealed the tomb with a heavy stone and stationed guards.
