Our politicians have called these times a financial emergency, but
there is a greater emergency of our hour. Sin is still the number one
cause of broken homes, wrecked health, job loss and Spiritual
poverty. It’s time we declare a Spiritual emergency and bring into
existence an endless stimulus package of God’s immeasurable grace.
Ephesians 4:7 says, “But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ (KJV).”
At the time I am writing this President Obama has just signed in a 787 billion dollar stimulus package into law. It is hard to imagine that amount of money or how one would go about distributing it. Let me put it in these terms we might better understand. $787 billion is the equivalent of the lifetime earnings of 567,000 people. To further complicate the process, the decision was made against earmarks (which is how congress designated how the money will be spent).
Sarah Binder of the Brookings Institution says, "Because there is so much money here, and in so many different forms, there is no single pathway for the money to go out to states and localities. When this bill passes, a Niagara Falls of money will flow out of Washington and into the accounts of state highway commissioners, governors and legislatures, local school boards, county executives — even mayors,” Binder says.
From an accounting standpoint, imagine for a moment that you’re the one called to dispense the money out to each agency. Then, once the money is given then becomes your task to contact each of those agencies and find out how every dollar was spent. I am sure that you can appreciate with me how large this task would be.
In comparison, the Bible shows us that God gives us grace in a quantity greater than 787 Billion, in fact, the scripture shows us that God’s grace is so abundant, it’s immeasurable. Ephesians 4:7 literally means that there isn’t a unit of measure large enough to quantify the grace that flows from the Father to us.
Yet in spite of Grace’s innumerable size, 1Peter 4:10, calls us to be “good stewards of the manifold grace of God!” God calls us into accountability for something that is too large to measure.
God wants his grace distributed to everyone. 2Peter 3:9 teaches us, “The LORD is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” In other words, God wants everyone to have an opportunity to receive grace!
Fortunately, God understands the immense task. In Luke 6:38, Jesus says, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again (KJV).” God only calls us to give away that which we have received.
Our politicians have called these times a financial emergency, but there is a greater emergency of our hour. Sin is still the number one cause of broken homes, wrecked health, job loss and Spiritual poverty. It’s time we declare a Spiritual emergency and bring into existence an endless stimulus package of God’s immeasurable grace.
