At age 12, Josh Sievers started drinking.   He would take his mother’s liquor and replace it with water.   A few years later, at age 15, he started smoking cigarettes and using speed.   It wasn’t long until he was also smoking marijuana.   Things were turning from bad to worse as this bondage became a part of Josh’s life.   He spent much of his teenage years drinking or  being under the influence of drugs.

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”   The Lord already knew what He was going to do with Josh.

When Josh was 17, he met Lamatha Dent, and the two were married four months later.   For the first year of their marriage, the time that wasn’t spent in partying would be spent in fighting with each other.   After the first year, the partying stopped, but the fighting continued on for the next four years.

Around this time, one of Josh’s friends was going to be put in jail for a lengthy stay.   He called Josh and told him he wanted to have a “going away” party.   At some point during the party, this friend told Josh that he needed to get up and go to church in the morning.   The next morning at church service Josh and Lamatha realized that something was missing from their lives.

Preserved by God for a Purpose

Josh’s slavery to the devil came to an end about 12 years ago.   The Lord was beginning to manifest His ultimate plan for Josh and Lamatha.   Lamatha started visiting different churches around this time, trying to find the right one.   Eventually she was invited to a Trinitarian Pentecostal church, where she received the Holy Ghost .  Not long after this, Josh also received this wonderful gift from God.

At the age of 26, Josh was called by God to be a preacher of the Word.  In the church where they received the Holy Ghost, Josh and Lamatha went through the ministry program, and Josh was ordained as a minister, but God was not through revealing Himself yet.

In 2006, Lamatha started meeting with Dovie Thompson for coffee and to study the Word together.   In time, God revealed the Oneness Truth to her.   Lamatha, fired up by what the Lord had made visible to her, brought this to Josh.   He was wary at first, after all, if it was the truth, why weren’t all the churches teaching it?   As the Lord softened Josh toward this Oneness truth, Josh began to realize where God was leading him.

The Truth will set you free

On January 6, 2008, Josh, Lamatha and their children, Jacob and Ariana, were baptized in Jesus’ name here at New Life Church.  Since attending New Life, both Jacob and Ariana have received the Holy Ghost.   Josh is working towards his ministerial license with the United Pentecostal Church, and both Josh and Lamatha are attending Purpose Institute.    Both Josh and Lamatha will tell you there is no high that is better than being surrounded by the Presence of the Lord.   What God has done for the Sievers’, He wants to do for you.   All you need  to do is ask Him.
