Who told you, you were naked? PDF Print E-mail

Adam and Eve had eaten of the forbidden tree.  Tempted by satan they had given up their innocence for a seemingly meaningless experience.  Now, in their new reality they feel the full effect of sin.  More than just the absence of clothing, they find the need to hide themselves.

It is clear in the scriptures, that the choice that rocked their world did not change God.  At the appointed time, God appeared calling them by name, but sin built a barrier of fear between them and God, that only a cross could remove.

In their new fallen state God asked a question that reveals to us our own vulnerability.  In our own state of sin, we are subjected to many voices of this world.

1 Corinthians 14:10 says, “There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.”

The problem then lies in the fact that the voices of the world are saying things to us that God is not saying to us.

God is saying good things about us.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

God is saying that we are forgiven.  1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

God is saying that He is our healer.  James 5:14-15a says, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick.”

Jesus gave His purpose in Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”

God is saying He is our provider Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

The list of what God is saying to us goes on and on, but so do the voices of this world.

“Your marriage is over.”  “You’re going to lose your job.”  “The economy is going to collapse.”  “The cancer is malignant.”  “You’re going to lose your house.”

It is our choice whose report we will listen to.  When God finds us filled with worry and fear, He comes and asks us the question, “Who told you, you were naked?”  “Who told you, you were forsaken?”  “Who told you, I won’t take care of you?”  “Who told you, that you can’t be forgiven?”  “Who told you this stuff?  The voices you’re listening to are not from me.”

Stricken with cancer a friend of mine we only given weeks to live.  Her turning point came when she asked herself the question, “Whose report will you believe?”  When she chose to believe the voice of God, God came and completely and instantly healed her.

What is God speaking to you? What are the voices of this world telling you?  Who will you choose to believe?
