Pentecost in Jerusalem in 30 A.D.Some have made the mistake of thinking that Pentecost has only to do with churches with the word “Pentecost” in their name. However, Pentecost was celebrated by the Jewish people for many years before the birthday of the church. The word Pentecost literally means “50 days” after the Passover.
Three things were celebrated in the Feast of Pentecost by the Jews:
1.The first fruits of this year’s harvest
2.The giving of the law to Moses on Mount Sinai
3.The remembrance of the their journey through the wilderness (they would leave their homes and camp out)
On the Day of Pentecost in 30 A.D., the Holy Ghost was given.Just as about the time the sun reached the top of the trees, there came a sound of a rushing mighty wind and they began to speak in a language they did not know.Peter spoke, “this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel(Acts 2:16)”When those who were listening heard this, they asked, “What shall we do to be saved?”Peter replied, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (vs. 38).”
Verse 39 of Acts, chapter 2, promises this exciting Pentecost experience is for you. This new life in Christ is a step of faith and belief in God’s Word.Just ask Jesus Christ to forgive you of all your sins, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and then raise your hands and face towards Jesus, and began worshipping Jesus.God has promised that He will pour His Spirit upon all flesh. Now receive it in Jesus’ name.
